Clouds Taste Metallic – Flaming Lips
This is another example of a band that people tell me I should like. So I go out, get their entire catalogue and…like two or three songs.
I suspect one of my LJ friends prodded me into the Flaming Lips direction as they are not some a band I would usually gravitate towards. However I do know that this was the first album by the Lips that I managed to source and to be fair, it’s not too offensive.
As I said, on the back of one person’s recommendation I downloaded most of the band’s catalogue and was immediately intrigued by the band’s peculiar song names such as Guy Who Got a Headache and Accidentally Saves the World and Abandoned Hospital Ship. Who wouldn’t want to know more?
Of course the old adage is something like don’t judge an album by its song titles and never more so than in this case.
The Flaming Lips have a very unique sound. Eclectic tunes with an unusual feel and Clouds Taste Metallic is a good showcase for this. However, as I said, they’re a little too stylistically rich for me. Too much content for a start. Still there are a few songs I like.
